my top 5 favorite tools

i often get asked about what tools you need to do projects and also how i knew what to start with. honestly, my husband was the one who started collecting tools, and i learned from him. now we both have a love of tools, not sure if he likes this or not (lol). we started collecting dewalt tools specifically because we love the quality of them as well as the power they have and just the overall experience of using them. they are just well built but are definitely an investment. another great option would be kobalt or ryobi as they are more budget friendly and have a lot of options in their tool lines!

these are my top five tools i use on every project and recommend to invest in first!

  1. multi tool- this tool is great for really anything. its a handy little saw for cutting anything and everything. i can’t even count all the times i have used it. you can also buy different heads to attach to it, based on what you want to use it for. hence the name, multi tool.

  2. compound miter saw- this saw cuts like butter! i love it so much. we recently upgraded to this from our old saw, and we specifically were looking for a saw that had a saw head that beveled in both directions as well as a tall back fence. other than that, we just really loved the smoothness of this saw when you cut and that portable stand you can buy to go with it. we waited until black friday and got a really good deal on this set!

  3. brad nailer- okay this is honestly my favorite tool i own. i used to use a pneumatic brad nailer but i got this for christmas a few years ago, and now i’ll never go back. this one is spendy, but worth it if you are investing in other dewalt tools for the battery line! so easy to use and i honestly use it on every project i do!

  4. table saw- again, have an love this. i love using the table saw more than the circular saw just because i feel like the cuts are more accurate, but the only downside is if you don’t have an outfeed table, you almost always need two people to drag large sheets of plywood through it. but i love using it on my own for a lot of other smaller cuts! we also bought roller stands to use when we don’t both have time to make cuts and need another set of “hands”. one day well build an outfeed table. highly recommend getting a table saw! you can do everything on it once you learn how to use it.

  5. drill + driver combo- this is like a basic necessity everyone should have IMO! we have a dewalt set as well as the rigid and we love them both. the only thing i will say is i love love our rigid impact driver because it almost never slips out of the screw head, unlike almost every other one i’ve used. its also just really smooth to use and its always my go to! this should actually be your first tool investment because you will always be reaching for it!

hopefully this is helpful for you! there are honestly soooo many tools and you could invest in every single one of them. but these are 5 great ones to start with! our strategy has always been to buy them as we need them for a project so you can build a collection over time and it doesn’t feel as daunting. also, did you know you can rent tools? most hardware stores have a rental counter where you can just use them as you need rather than purchasing them if it makes more sense for you!

happy diying!
